Garden

In the 1980′s, the garden was overgrown and the grounds were derelict. The only plants that had survived were an old fashioned Moss rose and a few trees, with a small pond in what is now the Herb garden.

Since then, the previous owners have tried to add a bed or border every year or two, and have also created a knot garden and an ornamental fish pond. A couple of years ago an antique three tier cast iron fountain was added to the original circular pond in the herb garden.

The garden even looks good in the depths of winter. The herbaceous borders tend to be planted with perennial plants which are cut and used throughout the hotel. Geraniums, Euphorbia, Pinks and a host of interesting & unusual species can be found throughout the borders, all sourced from local nurseries.

The large cast iron trough, now filled with flowers was reputedly purchased from the army when the cavalry regiments were disbanded after the Great War. Examples can be seen in other farms around the area. More farm equipment and artifacts have been used for floral displays around the hotel grounds. We even have an old mangle wurzler, which is used as a planter.

The gardens are an absolute riot of colour during the summer, and are not to be missed if you are horticulturally minded.
